Each year, the Stadler Center hosts a student reading in which students who have won literary prizes and awards are invited to read their work. This year, one May 6th, the reading was held via Zoom. Winners of the Cadigan and Smithson prizes were invited to read their work. Readers included Andrei Bucaloiu, Nicole Yeager, Paige Caine, Gari Eberly, Hailey Robinson, and Melissa Tong. Family, friends, professors and other members of the Bucknell community were invited to attend and support. The donors of the Cadigan prize, Robb and Joan Cadigan, were among the audience.

The event was a wonderful way to close out the semester and honor the students who made an impact on the literary community at Bucknell.

This past Spring semester, the Stadler Center hosted another series of writers. This year, the University welcomed Evie Shockley, Diana Khoi Nguyen, Angie Cruz, and Stephanie Burt. All events were hosted via Zoom, due to the ongoing conditions of the pandemic; despite this, all events received a large audience that was engaged through virtual comments and applause.

Evie Shockley read on February 19th.

Diana Khoi Nguyen read on March 11th from her poetry collection, titled Ghost Of.

Angie Cruz read on March 23rd; on March 25th she answered questions and shared fiction tips.

Stephanie Burt read on April 6th.

Look out for another writer series this coming Fall semester!

On March 9th, the Creative Writing Club completed our first workshop! Last Tuesday, nine writers met for a virtual writing session based on prompts created by VP Tabitha. After discussing the rules of the workshop and going over the list of prompts, writers turned off their cameras and mics to get to writing. Afterwards, they came back together to discuss their reactions to this first half. A week later, after given time to touch up their work, the writers met again to conduct the workshop portion. They took turns sharing their pieces; the workshoppers took 15 minutes to leave comments on the piece via GoogleDoc comments; and then it was followed by a discussion.

All writers found this first time to be a success and are excited to continue this series in the coming semesters!
